Island of Kaua‘i:

  • Of the Hawaiian Islands, Kaua‘i harbors the greatest number of endangered species
  • Alien plants are the No. 1 threat to the survival of the 47 listed and endangered species found in Kaua‘i’s State Parks

Biodiversity:

  • Home to more than 10,000 plants and animals, of which 90% are found nowhere else in the world
  • Has almost all of the Earth’s variation in climate and most of its variation in soil
  • Accounts for only 0.2% of the land area in the United States, yet 75% of U.S. extinctions occur here
  • Nearly 60% of Hawai‘i’s total native flora & fauna is threatened or endangered – the highest percentage of any state
