Come Visit the Green Co-op at the 2008 COF Conference!

That's right, we're taking this show on the road. Come see our exhibition booth at The Council on Foundations' annual conference May 4-7, 2008 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. There will be educational resources, special promotional deals and a free raffle.

To further promote your efforts to create a more sustainble spaces, operations and events, we have added a resource page with links to a bevy of information targetted at conscientious consumers and employees such as yourselves.

What is the EGA Co-op?

We have launched our very own Green Co-op to help members use their spending power in support of a ‘greener’, more sustainable economy!  By pooling resources the green Co-op leverages your buying power to make greener products more affordable through negotiating with ‘green’ vendors to provide nationally competitive volume discounts on products ranging from office supplies to gift baskets to rental cars.

Beyond providing access and discounts for these products, the Co-op aspires to help you to green your foundation practices in other ways too. In the future you will be able to measure your carbon footprint and easily practice carbon offsetting with the help of the Carbon Neutral Alliance; access a toolkit for organizing a green event; or obtain information on greening your 401k plan.

Why should I join the EGA Co-op?

By using operational budgets to procure ‘green’ products, foundations with an environmental focus can positively impact their core mission beyond the scope of grant making.  This is an opportunity for EGA members to walk the talk and go green beyond grants to support companies that truly operate with a triple bottom line – environment, economy and social equity!

Who Are the Vendors?

TheGreenOffice.com is a ‘green’ online office supply store that provides EGA members one  stop shopping for everything from paper to biodegradable flatware to carbon offsets. TheGreenOffice.com has made a commitment to provide discounts to co-op members of 10-30%.    

Organic Bouquet is an online flower/gift shop sourced from growers who are committedto  the highest social andenvironmental standards.  Product certification ranges from USDA Organic, Fair Trade,Veriflora, Biodynamic and more!  OrganicBouquet offers a 10% discount on all of its products.

Fox Rent-a-car is a west-coast car rental agency with a fleet that includes Toyota Prius, Honda Civic and Escape/Highlander hybrid models.  They have agreed to provide a 5% discount for Co-op members.

Peace Coffee is a company founded by the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP), with the goal of expanding fair trade with integrity so that a decent living for farmers is the norm instead of the alternative. They have 15 varieties of 100% Fair Trade, Organic, Shade Grown and Micro-roasted coffee and provide a 15% discount Co-op members.

Orion Magazine is a bi-monthly magazine focused on environmental and cultural concerns, with beautiful images, insigntful articles and inspiring stories focused on the moral responsibility that humans have towards the world in which we live.  They have agreed to provide EGA Green Co-op members with an annual subscription for only $19.  That is over 50% off of the normal subscription price and 65% off of the cover price.

How do I use the Green Co-op?

Once you become a member you will have access to discount codes from our members’ only page that you can use while shopping on our vendor’s websites.  It’s as simple as that!
