About the Image
Hurley Cornfield by Judy Abbott in collaboration with Doug Alderfer
Corn is the primary cash crop grown in the lower Esopus Valley, which includes much of the fertile flood plate of Hurley. The Native Americans grew corn here for millennia until the Dutch arrived in the mid-1600s and claimed these fine fields.
