Birding the Ottawa Area

Early morning bird tours will be available for those who like to greet the dawn. Led by famous Canadian birder Bruce Di Labio, a professional international birding guide and educator, you will cover a number of areas around Ottawa. Today, you will be looking for migrants in the Gatineau Park: Indigo Bunting, Scarlet Tanager and Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Don’t forget your binoculars!

Ottawa Walking Tours: National Gallery of Canada

The National Gallery of Canada is a unique architectural space of stone, glass and spires designed by Israeli-Canadian architect Moishe Safdie. The building, completed in 1989, contains many of Canada’s art treasures. An art historian will lead your tour and point out the features of this magnificent building. The two-hour tour will take you through the Canadian art galleries, the indoor garden, water courtyard, the Great Hall (with its fabulous view of the parliament library), and into the gallery containing the reconstructed neo-gothic vaulting of a demolished Ottawa nineteenth-century convent chapel.

Ottawa Walking Tours: The Byward Market

Since the arrival of Colonel John By in 1826, Lowertown and the Byward Market have been the hub of Ottawa. With buildings dating back more than a century, the market offers a fascinating glimpse into Canada’s past. Its colorful activities reflect the character of Ottawa’s style. During this two-hour walking tour, we will revisit “Lowertown” of the 1800s, and be introduced to some of the people and businesses that make it so popular today.
